I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 5th instant, in which you inform me, by direction of His Excellency the Governor, that the tribunal for investigating such charges as those contained in my letter of the 2nd instant, is the Executive Council and not the Legislative Council, and that the fullest opportunity will be afforded them to bring the matter forward to the proper quarter.
In reply, I beg to point out that the documents enclosed with my communication of the 2nd instant, show that Dr. Eitel, in his capacity of Private Secretary to His Excellency, and, as he alleged at the time and continues to affirm, by the instructions of His Excellency, made to me certain improper statements calculated to destroy the reputation of the Honourable M.S. Tonnochy, Acting Colonial Secretary.
